What is ASB all about?

Hello Valley View Families!

As ASB coordinator my role is to help students plan activities that would support all students at Valley View.  As a current 6th grade teacher, I help ensure that our 6th-grade students are truly showing their leadership skills through ASB as well.  I am constantly on the lookout for ideas that do not cost money for our students to participate in.  Fun dress up days support school spirit, if students can find a fun reason to come to school, they will make a connection that could last a lifetime.

ASB is an elected group of student representatives from grades 4, 5, and 6.  These students are Associated Student Body representatives.  They help plan activities at school, plan dress up days, show good character, make announcements, and participate in our monthly Spirit Assemblies.  In order to be in ASB, students are chosen by their classmates as class representatives.  They are then responsible for taking the information from our meetings and sharing that information with their classes. Those representatives are then able to run for offices of:  Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President.  They create a short speech which is recorded.  Those speeches are added to the ASB Google Classroom site.  During our voting week, students in grades 4, 5, and 6, view those videos and vote for each office.

The elected officers have added responsibilities.  Our Secretary is responsible for taking notes during the meetings, their record becomes our official minutes.  The treasurer is responsible for counting money and making deposits from each of the activities that happen on campus.  The Vice President is responsible for overseeing our accurate ASB attendance information, leading our Spirit Assemblies, and participating in our monthly School Board meeting videos.  The President is responsible for leading ASB meetings, leading Spirit Assemblies, and participating in our monthly School Board meeting videos.

Our ASB students choose a project they want to oversee for the entire school.  These projects consist of Spirit Days, Red Ribbon Week, Read Across America Week, and Kona Ice on the Last Day of School.  These projects will vary from year to year.
