What is ASB all about?

Hello Valley View Families!

As the ASB Coordinator, my role is to support students in planning activities that promote school spirit, build community, and create positive experiences for all students at Valley View. I am always looking for opportunities that allow students to participate in fun activities at little or no cost. Spirit days and dress-up days help foster school pride, and sometimes a simple reason to be excited about coming to school can create connections and memories that last a lifetime.

ASB (Associated Student Body) is made up of elected student representatives from grades 4, 5, and 6. These students serve as leaders on campus by helping to plan school activities, organize spirit days, model positive character, make announcements, and participate in our monthly Spirit Assemblies.

Students are first elected by their classmates to serve as class representatives. As representatives, they attend ASB meetings and share important information with their classmates. Representatives may also choose to run for one of the ASB officer positions: Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, or President. Candidates create and record a short campaign speech, which is posted in the ASB Google Classroom. During election week, students in grades 4–6 watch the speeches and vote for the officers they would like to represent them.

Each officer has additional leadership responsibilities:

Secretary – Records notes during meetings and maintains the official ASB meeting minutes.
Treasurer – Assists with counting funds and preparing deposits from ASB-sponsored activities.
Vice President – Oversees attendance records, helps lead Spirit Assemblies, and participates in monthly School Board meeting videos.
President – Leads ASB meetings, serves as a primary leader during Spirit Assemblies, and participates in monthly School Board meeting videos.

Each year, ASB students select projects and activities they would like to oversee for the school community. These may include Spirit Days, Red Ribbon Week, Read Across America Week, Kona Ice on the last day of school, and other special events. The projects and activities may vary from year to year based on student interests and ideas.

In support of our school's attendance goals, our school counselor and I collaborated to create the Welcome Crew. On Friday mornings, ASB students take turns greeting students at the drop-off gate with music, pom-poms, posters, and encouraging words. This positive welcome helps students start their day with excitement and reminds them that we are happy they chose to come to school.

At the end of each year, ASB students celebrate their hard work and dedication by participating in a group field trip. This experience provides students with an opportunity to engage in leadership-building activities and workshops as a team while also enjoying time together through a fun and rewarding shared experience. The field trip serves as both a celebration of their service and an opportunity to continue developing their leadership skills.

We are proud of our ASB students and appreciate the leadership, responsibility, and school spirit they bring to Valley View each year. Their commitment to serving others helps make our school a welcoming and positive place for all students.

Thank you for your continued support.
